The next instant I heard my dad yelling at the dog, Silver…Get down! Stop! Get out of here! No! The growling had quickly escalated into the sound of a dog in attack mode. As I turned to rush out to help my dad he slammed the door, trapping himself on the porch and shouting, Don’t come out here, Silvers gone crazy. Silver was lunging up, toward my dads throat, while my dad kicked and hammered the dog with his fists, trying to fend off the attacks. My God, I thought, Whats happened to Silver? Has he gone mad?EXCERPT- FUROR- My heart began to pound like crazy. Furor was not backing down and although he may have wanted to obey me, his agitation toward this aggressor was overriding his conditioning to do so.

At each command to Stop! Come! he would pause, look at me, and then resume his slow, stalking pace, which was closing the distance at each step.It was all too frighteningly clear that this threatening, 100lb wolf/dog was tensely awaiting my pup to reach him.

It would only take a brief engagement of the dogs when critical, if not fatal, injuries could be inflicted upon my pup.My senses told me it was a matter of moments before the two animals clashed. I began to pray, Oh, God, please help me. He’ll kill my pup if I dont do something. The next instant, looking down near my feet, I spotted a two-third part of a brick near the curb. Picking it up, I slowly began moving to the right of Furor, who was now in the middle of the street with only ten to twelve feet distance to reach his destroyer.

All I could hope for was to move in close enough to hurl the brick, strike the brute, shocking him, and trust that would send him scampering off for home.“…Remembering The Guardians” are four true stories of some superb canines, three of which were purebred German Shepherds, which gave me some impressive lessons on the thinking process of canines and particularly this breed.

If you’ve ever had or have a German Shepherd Dog, I’m sure you will be deeply moved by the impacting experience I lived with each one.
